Atlanta’s Home for Comics Since 1980

Oxford Comics & Games has been a cornerstone of Atlanta’s comic book community for more than four decades. Founded in 1980 inside the now‑defunct Oxford Book Shop by our late founder Mike Van Houten, the store began as a small comic section run by a determined 13‑year‑old with a passion for storytelling. Mike’s dedication, work ethic, and love for the medium transformed that humble beginning into what Oxford is today — Atlanta’s oldest and largest comic shop, and one of the most respected destinations for comics, manga, graphic novels, and pop‑culture art in the Southeast.

From the earliest days of longboxes and newsprint to today’s era of prestige formats and creator‑owned universes, Oxford Comics & Games has remained committed to one mission: keep the culture of comics alive in Atlanta.

Our Mission: Comics for Everyone

We believe comics are one of the most powerful storytelling mediums in the world — and they belong to everyone. Whether you’re a lifelong collector hunting key issues, a new reader discovering your first series, or a parent introducing a young fan to superheroes, Oxford is a place where every reader can find something to love.

Our mission is built on four pillars:

1. Accessibility

We strive to make comics welcoming and approachable for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

2. Community

We support Atlanta’s creative ecosystem, from local artists to small publishers and independent creators.

3. Preservation

We maintain one of the largest and most carefully curated back‑issue selections in the Southeast, ensuring that comic history remains available to everyone.

4. Celebration

We champion the full spectrum of the medium — superhero epics, indie experiments, manga, European comics, small‑press gems, and everything in between.
