(Condition Notes: Spine Dents)
Clark Kent has been called by Lloyd Corman, a prisoner on death-row convicted of murdering a Minit-Mart cashier and stealing money from the register, in order to prove his innocence which Lloyd claims he is, when Clark finds himself tormented by visions of the three Phantom Zone criminals from the Pocket Universe which he had to put to death using Green Kryptonite. Eventually he sees them take physical form and tries to fight them, only to find out that they are intangible energy beings somehow given physical form. Superman puts an end to their torment by using a steel rod flung toward them during a lightning storm, when a lightning bolt strikes the rod near them, creating a powerful discharge that causes them to dissipate. Unfortunately, Clark in his investigation finds no evidence to support Lloyd's claims of innocence -- rather, just the opposite -- though he does find that he acted out of desperation for paying medical bills for his infant son who has gotten sick. With a sympathy plea, Clark succeeds at least in commuting Lloyd's death sentence to a life sentence.
