Since 1994, Juxtapoz Magazine has provided both a forum for so-called Lo-Brow artwork inspired by comics, hot rods, and popular culture, and a voice and validation for a brand of artist, like founder Robert Williams, Mark Ryden, Coop, Camille Rose Garcia, Glen Barr, the Clayton Brothers, Isabel Samaras, Joe Coleman, and many others who have not historically been accepted by the typical art-world infrastructure of collector, curator, and critic. Published in conjunction with the Laguna Art Museum 2008 exhibition, this exciting and provocative collection presents a group of artists who rejected traditional rules of the art establishment and created their own canon, known as the Juxtapoz School.
